Clean Sweep For Swindon ASC!

At the recent Wiltshire County Amateur Swimming Association AGM, Swindon ASC scooped 4 of the annual County awards; an amazing achievement that has rarely been accomplished by one club in one year before!

The 4 awards won by Swindon ASC were:

  • The Oram Trophy: awarded to the club that has awarded its swimmers the highest number of challenge and speed badges*.
  • The Early Trophy: awarded to the club with the highest number of life-saving awards*.
  • The Leyland Cup: awarded to the club with the highest number of qualified teachers and helpers*.
  • The John Ovens Learners Trophy: awarded to the club that gives out the highest number of certificates under the National Plan for Teaching*.

  • * calculated as a percentage of a clubs annual total membership.

Robin Hooper, Chairman, said, "these awards are open to entry to the 24 asa affiliated clubs within the County. Over the past few years we have regularly won 2 or 3 of these awards, so to win all 4 awards in one year is a great reflection on the quality of the teaching within our club."

Swindon ASC, which is the oldest swimming club in Swindon and currently in its 133rd year, was formed for the workers of the GWR and today, as then, still operates to the ethos of being an affordable swimming club for children who would like to learn to swim and join a swimming club within the Swindon area.
