Johnny, patron of the NSPCC 110 Challenge in Swindon, has challenged Paul to support the fundraising appeal by swimming 110 lengths of the Swindon swimming pool in which he and his sister learned to swim as children. 57-year-old Paul from Swindon, a swimmer for England when he was aged 15, has bravely taken up the contest and on 22 September will be joined by local children from Swindon ASC to complete the 2.3 mile challenge.

Local sporting celebrity boxer Jamie Cox and Miss Swindon (Rebecca Cole) joined Johnny Ball, his wife and brother-in-law along with the young swimmers to launch the event on 21 July.

Paul said: My sister Di and I were keen swimmers as children and have fond memories of being members of Swindon ASC swimming club, training in the Victorian baths on Milton Road. I know how dedicated these young swimmers are so I am delighted that they have agreed to help me raise money for the 110 challenge. I hope that local people will dig deep to support the appeal as it is so important that everyone does whatever they can to help ensure our local children and families have somewhere safe to turn to.

Paul and the other swimmers will spend the summer holidays raising sponsorship money in aid of the NSPCC 110 Challenge. The sponsored swim will be the last event in the calendar for the appeal which is nearing its target to raise £110,000 to support various projects to help vulnerable local children.
